Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child (1989) by Eric C — 24 Nov 2009
Good sequel it did a good job at bringing Freddy back into the dark atmosphere he once had. The problem with the execution was that people were enjoying the flashy Freddy from part 4.
The story itself is also dark, using a child in any kind of horrific situation is always a chance taker, but using an unborn child is even more so.
I thought this film was well made and is usually looked at in the worse way. The one flaw here is that we get a small body count, so really no way to compare deaths. The worse thing about this is that we still don't get to really know the characters. I did like the comic book death, but mainly because of Freddy's witty banter "Faster than the local madmen...".
Lisa Wilcox returns as Alice, but is used as more of a background character instead of a returning character. Danny Hassell is used for a short time and serves his part in the story of the film.
Great film that needs more recognition, maybe a new special edition.
3 out of 5 stars.
