Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child (1989) by Shawn S — 15 Jul 2014
Stephen King once compared telling a story to uncovering a dinosaur skeleton. For our purposes, the analogy alludes to the idea that even if a good story is present, it must be properly uncovered while not being damaged.
A movie too damaged would be one with too much exposition, a movie not properly uncovered is one that doesn't deliver the necessary information in a the proper way. Let's just say, the paleontologists who wrote The Dream Child left a lot of dirt on the skeleton.
It could've been one of the better sequels because some really interesting concepts are hidden deep underneath what ends up being the worst of the series thus far. Because it didn't bother letting the audience understand the story, which may be a sign the writer's didn't themselves, it instead dives into the slasher's genre's loathed cliches deeper than any of the previous four.
