Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) by Jared G — 10 Mar 2010
Dream Warriors is still an enjoyable entry in the series, but it also signals the devolution of the franchise into a horror/comedy hybrid in which Freddie becomes an evil, maniacal clown figure instead of the demonic other he functioned as in the first two films.
This third film plays pretty well because it is set in a mental hospital where teenage insomniacs try to deal with their problems which end up, of course, stemming not from psychological disorders but from Freddie's nocturnal predations.
This is still a fun slasher film but it begins to turn the series into the stupid, comedian boogeyman genre that it would become.
