Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) by Zachary H — 11 Aug 2011
A marked improvement over part 2, part 3 is firmly in the like category of Nightmare films. I have two categories really and while this one is at the bottom of the like category, it shouldn't be taken that it is bad.
It is either my third of fourth FAVORITE. I like that this film brought back Nancy. The female bad-ass was an element that was sorely lacking in the second film. Most of the deaths in this one are very gruesome and well done.
The effects are mostly VERY GOOD (other than one scene where the puppet kid is walking through the hallways and they can't seem to figure out where his veins are). This film is where they seemed to turn Freddy from the more sinister depiction in the first two films into the campy, corny, and gratuitous killer that we know today.
The idea within this story, the idea of people having powers in the dream world is one that is very good, and I wish that they would've included this more into the other films besides a clunky retread in Freddy's Dead.
Overall, whether you like sinister or campy Freddy, this film will more than entertain you.
