Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) by Alex G — 06 Aug 2009
I'd seen the first three back to back eight years ago; I decided to do the same today. The first and third are inspired, the second is like a campy seemingly low-budget branch-off, not strictly related to parts one and two.
Dream Warriors had the biggest budget among the three and it shows - some clever ideas adding on to the concept and a decent adult cast, an OK teen one. There's some interesting explanations for the "Freddy Kruger" origins and resolutions.
The film set in a mental hospital sets up for different kills, disorders and ways of dealing with insomnia. The imagination is quite good (There's four people behind the screenplay and Frank Darabont is one of them!) Of course this means it's highly surrealistic as opposed to frightening like the first one - almost like X-men vs.
Kruger and some silliness shows.
