A great introduction to my favorite horror icon, Freddy Krueger, followed closely by Chucky from Childsplay. It's exactly what I like from a movie of this type- something truly scary but not taking itself so overly serious. I hate movies like that. Plenty of horrific surreal moments(that one with a young Johnny Depp!) and a sympathetic young heroine we hope makes it out okay, played by Nancy Thompson.
The movie is primarily serious in tone and scary-only giving us glimpses of Freddy. Wes Craven is a genius for giving us this awesome character and franchise. Too bad its all been killed to hell in the 2010 remake by Samuel Bayer.
