Review of A Night to Remember (1958) by Bill W — 09 Sep 2010
The 1953 Twentieth Century Fox film, Titanic, focused on fictional characters aboard the Titanic when it went down. James Cameron's 1997 film, Titanic, focused on fictional characters aboard the Titanic when it went down.
This film focuses on the Titanic when it went down. All the characters depicted are based on actual passengers or composites of actual passengers who were aboard the Titanic. Almost all of the incidents, interactions and even the background pieces of business in the movie actually happened.
The film is based on the meticulously researched book by Walter Lord. Although the film follows events for which the outcome is known at the start the film and is done in a documentary style it still manages to be suspenseful and captivating.
Although it lacks the scope and the production values of James Cameron's film in many ways it surpasses it.
