Review of A Night at the Opera (1935) by Calvin C — 04 Oct 2013
Since the only other Marx Brothers movie I have seen is Duck Soup, this Marx Brothers comedy has a better story and relies less on a lot of slapstick, though there are still plenty of gags. The stateroom scene on the boat is pure comic genius and has been copied ever since. I liked the characters the Brothers played and the music/songs aren't bad either. The two young lovers are likeable and the ending is some of the most impressive physical and non-verbal comedy I have seen. If I had to choose, I'd spend A Night At The Opera with these funny men.
Grade: A-.
