Review of A Most Violent Year (2014) by Elle G — 06 Feb 2015
With this cast and director pedigree, I was expecting a good film, but AMVY exceeded my expectations. This is a film for those who appreciate film. It's quiet, there's more dialogue than action (although the several action sequences that are present are very well done, almost a throwback to ones from The French Connection), and the movie makes you think.
I admittedly have a soft spot for films set in this era, and that part is so well done. But the story is compelling, the performances uniformly very good, and the film is original and not for viewers who need to see something explode every five minutes to be satisfied.
You know who I'm talking about. The people who expect that in a movie should stay far, far away from AMVY. Cinephiles and those who appreciate well paced, well thought out and intelligent drama will enjoy.
