Review of A Most Violent Year (2014) by Allen G — 22 Apr 2016
A modern-day Godfather that lands Oscar Isaac fully on the hype-train. I wonder what will become of him... (I am joking, Star Wars is already out as I write this, he is huge now and stuff).
Whilst it has all the style and gravitas of the films that inspired it, 'A Most Violent Year''s plot just doesn't quite have enough of an edge to keep it interesting. This isn't much of an issue given how strong the performances are and how cool the pay off is but, still, a few tweaks and this really might have been the first film of its genre to fully live up to its predecessors.
Plenty to ponder over and a sign of great things to come from all involved. Also, I think I have a man-crush on Oscar Isaac. It is time that the truth was heard.
