Review of A Monster Calls (2016) by Alex M — 23 Jan 2017
A Monster Calls.
A boy dealing with his mother's terminal illness seeks solace from an imaginary tree monster.
While not as deep as the more adult orientated Manchester by the Sea, A Monster Calls also deals with grief, but from a child's perspective. An intelligent film that pulls no punches of a boy's internal rage coping with the impending loss of a terminally ill loved one. Even though it's a jerker of tears, A Monster Calls is an important film for children to experience.
Grade: B+.
Big Al says see A Monster Calls in the theatre.
