Review of A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014) by Drago? C — 09 Jan 2015
Weak and cringeworthy at times, A million Ways is sporadically funny thanks mostly to its great cast and the way they play off each other and to some mildly funny anachronisms. The classic western, almost vaudevillian orchestral score is also appealing. The movie is nonetheless a triple failure for McFarlane. As a writer he pens barely enough good jokes to stick in the trailer. As a director he fails to get the comedic timing right for a movie, often falling back on his family guy-esque cutaway gag staple. As an actor he is just unfunny and has very little screen presence, and he often seems as if he's doing an improv bit or a stand up routine, and not in a good way.
While it is only sporadically funny A million ways to die in the west might still be worth your time if you want some quick but unfortunately rare chuckles.
