Review of A Mighty Heart (2007) by Kristyn S — 12 Jul 2008
The outcome was already known but the movie was riveting nonetheless. Based on a true story, a journalist from the Wall Street Journal, Daniel Pearl, was preparing to conduct a risky interview. To his wife's chagrin, he goes missing and a massive search for his whereabouts ensues.
It can get a tad bit confusing with all the alliances the kidnappers have but it was the acting that kept it absorbing. Angelina Jolie was phenomenal playing the pregnant wife with a French accent, and she should of been nominated for an Oscar.
The tragedy is hard to bare but director Michael Winterbottom does a superb job ending with the birth of the journalist's child. That is a sign from God, that although death brings grief and sorrow, the child represents that there is still innocence and the significance of birth and that life itself must go on.
