Review of A Mighty Heart (2007) by Brian G — 10 Nov 2008
Story of Marianne Pearl's ordeal after her husband was kidnapped in Pakistan and she worked to find out what had happened and tried to get him out. The film captures a sense of what it is like for a Westerner to live in that part of the world in these times.
Also, the viewer felt the paranoia the Pakistanis have to ensure this American is returned so that it would not reflect badly on them. Jolie is terrific as Pearl, a woman who remains strong, in part for the baby she is carrying, but also who refuses to let the tragedy change her perspective on acceptance.
However the film did not have quite the power that it should, for some reason. The detective work was less compelling than the thought of what Daniel Pearl might have been going through. For me, Rendition is a more involving better take on somewhat similar material.
