Review of A Mighty Heart (2007) by Christine B — 18 Dec 2008
It's always hard to watch a movie based on a real life tragedy because you know how it's going to turn out, but I wanted to see this and I'm glad I did. Mariane Pearl is an amazing woman and has gone through hell and somehow wasn't consumed by her grief or bitterness (possibly because she's a Buddhist).
Angelina Jolie gave her best performance to date in A Mighty Heart and the mostly unknown supporting cast were all excellent. It was a little slow in places and I'm glad that it's not a very long movie or it would have been torturous to watch.
However, I think Michael Winterbottom did a fine job directing this extremely sad and thought-provoking tale.
