Review of A Man for All Seasons (1966) by Jacqueline F — 29 Jun 2007
Excellent film about Thomas More and his refusal to grant Henry VIII a divorce so that he could marry Anne Boleyn. Paul Scofield is excellent as Thomas More - a straightforward, witty, strongly principled man.
What an example of Christian faith! He obviously had the odds stacked against him (thanks to Cromwell) but his faith never wavered. The last time he sees his family is a heartbreaking scene. The short postscript says that eventually Cromwell was beheaded, and the archbishop from More's trial was burned at the stake.
How ironic.
