Review of A Man for All Seasons (1966) by Thom B — 07 Nov 2007
One of my all time favorite movies, and probably my favorite film of the 1960s. While the premise of the film is similar to Becket and I love that film too, this film is so more captivating. Henry VIII somehow reminds me of Forrest Whitaker in the early scenes of the Last King of Scotland.
..he seems jolly and swelll at first, but teeming with a tacit energy that's about to burst at any moment. Historically, Thomas More was perhaps a little more bigoted, but here we are forced to sympathize with a man of faith.
..he gives up everything...his family, his wealth, his post, his dignity, all on principle...we will not move against his conscience. The dialogue is amazing...and fun to listen to...why don't they make movies like this any more?
