Review of A Man for All Seasons (1966) by Barry N — 29 Jun 2011
This film is a classic story that is both entertaining and well made. The story is easy to follow and at the same time feels complex enough that it has an originality of it's own. The acting is also very well done, even if the actor's don't fully emerse themselves in the personality of their characters. The settings are beautiful, the film and characters are extremely interesting and such. I think the reason some people feel that this film doesn't work is because it's boring. But because I love history and old films, I was really drawn into this film, invested in the characters and I cared about what happened to these people. Thomas More is one of the greatest cinematic heroes that doesn't get enough recognition. Beautifully rendered and knowing exactly what message it wants to get across and brimming with symbolism, A Man For All Seasons is a fantastic moviegoing experience, but it's not for everyone.
9.5/10.
