Review of A Little Romance (1979) by Trev B — 01 Jun 2009
Charming little movie that unfolds like a highly entertaining novel, wonderfully enacted by the two young leads (one of whom would grow up to be Diane Lane). Olivier is priceless in a supporting role and elevates the entire enterprise. The script is a bit dated and sitcommy, but it nicely fleshes out the characters. 1979 was the year that ambitious epics like "Apocalypse Now" and "All That Jazz" competed at the Oscars and box office against small-scale human dramas like "Kramer vs. Kramer" and "Breaking Away"; score this pic as a win in the latter category.
Would make a great double bill with "Gregory's Girl.".
