Review of A Little Princess (1995) by Miranda W — 15 Jun 2009
"Every girl is a princess." Sara Crewe (Liesel Matthews) lived with her father, Captain Crewe (Liam Cunningham), in India until the time that her father has to leave for England who is at war.
Her father left Sara at the care of Miss Minchin (Eleanor Bron) at Minchin's seminary for girls. So unlike the book. It should've been frustrating but...Outstanding Cinematography, Smashing Script, Marvelous Music.
I am now officially a fan of Alfonso Cuaron. He is one notable director. The movie is overflowing with virtues like hope, respect, wisdom, generosity, loyalty, forgiveness etc. The scene where Sara's father remembered her was just so intense, I was wailing.
Based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The kids were fab and they are so named: Vanessa Lee Chester as Becky, Heather De Loach as Ermengarde, Taylor Fry as Lavinia and Kelsey Mulrooney as Lottie.
