Review of A Little Princess (1995) by Matt M — 27 May 2013
After a girl's wealthy father dies in battle, the head mistress keeps her and enslaves her. She remains alone with her dreams and hopes of seeing her father again. An obviously melodramatic tale that nevertheless feels surprisingly genuine.
This is no doubt mostly thanks to Cuarón whose visual style adds darkness to this film, and makes it seem like an enchanting fable.
