Review of A Hijacking (2012) by Jaimie C — 22 Dec 2013
"You can't understand me," is the sentence that is held in the minds of the three characters anchored together in this blind-sided-on-a-Tuesday-afternoon story.
Pilou Asbæk, Søren Malling and Abdihakin Asgar do a remarkable job of each convincing you that they are the natural element in this conflict - they are the one being reasonable, why can't the other two see that? It's hard to overstate how well the director establishes this premise of perspective, and for each side you'll be clenching your armchair, praying nothing goes more wrong than it already has. A Hijacking adds its bulk to the growing legion of international films that protests the notion that quality screenplay is the domain of Hollywood, and will stick with you as an uncomfortable reminder of just how delicate the balance of life on a blade can be.
