Review of A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) by Shane M — 01 Mar 2014
What the ****?! "A Good Day to Die Hard?" More like "A Bad Day or the Worst Day to Die Hard." The second worst sequel of 2013, behind Grown Ups 2 (gave that a positive review though.
I would give Grown Ups 2 .5/5), and the worst movie in the Die Hard franchise (why did the studio hire John Moore as director, and Skip Woods as screenwriter?). Die Hard 5 follows John McClane finding out his son Jack is in Moscow, and when he meets him, he learns that Jack's a CIA officer, and that he has interfered with a terrorist plot.
The fifth entry's plot is proof that there's nothing new or original left for the franchise, and all that the writer has done is rehash the plot, but add a new setting and characters, along with modern updating.
This idea fails to work like Die Hard 4, which blended modern terrorism with incredible action, while 5 uses the same thing with extremely over-the-top action, as well as 100% unrealistic and crappy action sequences.
The film's use of action falls flat every time The film suffers more damage when John Moore doesn't do any directing, and Skip Woods writing a clichà (C) script with no moments or anything to keep audiences in their seats through this very short length film.
The short length makes it hard to allow complexion or anything interesting in this flick. What could've made this somewhat decent just makes it borderline unwatchable, and that is the acting and the dialogue.
Bruce Willis fails as John McClane for the first time ever, as the character's age and attitude is dragging him down to Hell. Jai Courtney as Jack is unable to be Jack, and when alongside Willis, there is no chemistry between them at all.
The dialogue is completely clichà (C), and poorly executed by the actors, making it unintentionally funny, which doesn't help with the humor present in the film. Everything in this movie fails to measure up to the original masterpiece, and should never be watched or seen by fans.
