Review of A Fish Called Wanda (1988) by Ryan P — 02 Oct 2008
A friend of mine described watching this movie on cable TV after watching CRY FREEDOM; the only thing those two movies had in common was Kevin Kline playing two entirely different types of characters, and my friend commented on what a great actor Kline was.
In this film, former Python John Cleese plays an English lawyer and the "straight man" to Kline's wacky American "Soldier-of-Fortune" type. Jamie Lee Curtis is drop-dead-sexy and very funny as the femme-fatale and Michael Palin plays an animal lover with a stutter.
But the film is Kline's vehicle as his brash and stupid character drives his oversized American Lincoln through the streets of London calling everyone he cuts off an "asshole" and not realizing that he is driving on the wrong side of the road in England.
