Review of A Fish Called Wanda (1988) by Jennifer T — 05 Mar 2012
A comedy classic. Movie-goers just don't see enough of John Cleese outside of unmemorable cameos in Harry Potter or Shrek movies.
This movie shows what we have been missing. Cleese is superb, and much is also made of the performances from Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Kline's brilliant performance as Otto.
But not enough, I don't think, is made of the truly superb performance by Cleese's fellow Monty Python member, Michael Palin. The scenes with Palin trying to kill the little old lady are the real highlight of this movie.
Overall, every scene from John Cleese dancing naked in a stranger's apartment, to the random cameo from the brilliant Stephen Fry, works in this movie. And that's why it's still revered nearly 25 years later.
