Review of A Few Good Men (1992) by Alexander Z — 18 Aug 2012
A Few Good Men gets a few things right. It succeeds in showing a wide variety of military mentalities, from the question nothing attitude, to the question everything attitude. It also gets a few things wrong, mostly in how officers interact with each other.
But mostly, I didn't find the ending believable. It's simply too convenient. A Few Good Men is one of those movies that is directed supremely well and has relatively strong performances, but it nags at you whenever you think of it.
You can't pinpoint exactly what it is that leaves a sour taste in your mouth, because at the time, it looks pretty great. It's like the uncanny valley. Something is just a little off.
