Review of A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner! (2011) by Elizabeth K — 12 Jul 2011
Ok so first let me mention that I'm a little embarrassed about writing this review. I wasn't even sure I wanted to see this movie coz all commercials had the signs pointing to stupidness but I was a fairly oddparents fan when it first came out "pre poof" and the series was amazing til that point so my thought was that this might be a mess but the child in me kept nagging and nagging so in the end I watched the movie when it aired on tv.
It was actually pretty good. There was a nice connection between Timmy and Tootie and you got to see sides of some of these characters that you never really saw before. I liked that and I liked how they brought Drake Parker and merged him with Timmy Turner.
The actors did do a great job when protraying thier r4espective characters. I truly believed the cartoon had come to life which made my inner child happy. Overall, it was pretty funny and sweet. But it did have it's problems.
For example, Crocker was changed from a villian to a dispendetable lackey coz they brought in a new villian which very unnecessary. There wasn't enough time to grow Tootie and Timmy relationship and the ending was kinda stupid.
But despite all that compared to how bad it could have been considering how down hill the show itself has gotten over the years I don't regret watching it at all because it had the fun goofyness that we learned to love when the show first came out and had a clean story even if it was not the best story in the world.
So, I believe that all the old fairly oddparents fan should give it a chance because they like me may be pleasantly surprised by what butch hartman came up with.
