Review of A Face in the Crowd (1957) by Andrew S — 02 Jun 2007
In his film debut, the "dangerous" Andy Griffith plays a drifter who is discovered in jail by Patricia Neal who plays the daughter of a radio station owner.
She helps him build his career straight off the dirt roads of Arkansas to the spotlight in New York City.
Griffith does an excellent job at portraying a shy guy who has suddenly been given the keys to the nation. This sudden rise to fame and power brings a lot of money and can cause the blood to swell to your head.
Politicians get involved, though, to use him to get their ends. Everyone was playing with fire...
Elia Kazan does an job in directing this film. It is one that everyone thinking person should see.
