Review of A Face in the Crowd (1957) by Marla — 12 Jul 2008
Elia Kazan is one of the best American directors ever so was eager to see this. This is a timeless story about the horrors of youth idealism and an early look upon the birth of a conscious political scene dealing with spin.
Andy Griffith is quite marvellous in his screen debut as Lonesome Rhodes, Patricia Neal stunning and Lee Remick a perfect debut cast. It runs half an hour too long though, it stagnates too much and even becomes booring at times.
But again... there are unforgetable scenes to be found here. I will definitely be coming back to it again.
