Review of A Face in the Crowd (1957) by Paul P — 16 Jul 2010
Kazan's best film is 'On The Waterfront' but my favorite of his might be 'A Face in the Crowd'. A film that was released over 50 years ago but gains more relevance everyday it ages.
Attacking the media is nothing new but Kazan and writer Bud Schulberg take aim at so many targets that no one gets away unscathed. Andy Griffith is nothing short of perfect. Seeing this film after he did 'Matlock' and "The Andy Griffith Show' makes this performance even more shocking.
That laugh, the smile and that snake oil salesman voice, just off putting. That Vitajex scene will blow you away! Do yourself a favor and watch this along with Billy Wilder's 'Ace in the Hole' and you'll never turn your TV or radio on again!
