Review of A Face in the Crowd (1957) by Kevin H — 26 Aug 2011
Very entertaining film, it starts a little slow (or rather, for some reason I've seen the beginning many times and haven't seen the rest of the film) but it picks up in the middle section. Andy Griffith is excellent in the starring role and Patricia Neal was really nice.
I also loved Walter Matthau's role and wished he was in it more. It really builds up to an entertaining film, however I felt the last half hour or so wasn't as engaging as the rest of it, maybe it was the political take or something.
And since I've seen the downfall done countless times since then (Simpsons, Batman Returns, etc) I guess it wasn't too surprising (though I'm sure it was at the time). Regardless, I had a good time and it was a well told film of the rise and fall of a figure.
