Review of A Dog's Way Home (2019) by Lyn S — 10 Jan 2019
The book was not an upstanding piece of literature, but offered an enjoyable read. The same cannot be say for A Dogs Journey movie adaption. Expect nothing more than a cute dog.
I found my favorite part of the book to be Lucas struggles with his mom, his dog, and the laws that banned pit-bulls in Denver. It was heart-wrenching to see Bella, a bundle of joy, labeled as aggressive without a second thought. While this is semi-incorporated into the movie storyline it lacks the urge, depth, and passion necessary for the film to surpass anything other than mindless entertainment.
In terms of characters, they manage to be even more simplistic and forgettable than their book counterparts. Not to mention the voice acting of Bella that drove me crazy. Compared to Baileys soft, innocent thoughts, Bellas voice is a knife of enthusiasm that stabbed me in the ears until the movie ended. Anticipate a headache and take a Motrin before hand.
The only reason I would rate this two, rather than one, stars is simply to honor the book. Bruce Camerons is an amazing author and does not deserve such a shameful representation of his work.
Again, do not bother watching this movie. Stay home with the kids and watch Homeward Bound instead.
*fingers crossed A Dog's Journey will reset my faith in these adaptions.
