Review of A Dog's Life (1918) by Tim S — 25 Aug 2014
Charlie Chaplin's A Dog's Life is just one of many masterpieces in the silent film library. It's the classic Tramp character being wacky and silly, but this time around, he is joined by a dog, and later on, a love interest.
It's true that a lot of Chaplin's biggest successes feature a lot of the same key elements and a lot of the same outcomes, but that's what makes them so enjoyable. I guess you have the enjoy the character and want to follow along with him into whatever mischief he gets himself into to appreciate it.
It's not one of his best films, in my opinion, but it is one of his most noted silent era works. It's enjoyable, if a bit tired in formula.
