Review of A Dog's Breakfast (2007) by Lady A — 23 Jun 2009
This movie will charm you. This movie will make you laugh. This movie may even make your bed, if you ask nicely (it really is that good). It is dark and weird in the most cheerful ways you can imagine (and several you can't). And it only gets better when you watch it again (and again, and again).
You know those eccentric relatives you're kind of embarrassed by, but you really can't help loving because, darn it, they're family? That's Patrick (David Hewlett in a disarmingly sweet and convincingly strange performance), the poor guy who's just trying, in the face of big changes, to maintain some normalcy in his own odd way.
Patrick's sister (a sharp and funny Kate Hewlett) has just brought home a fiance (the adorable Paul McGillion) who seems poised to ruin Patrick's carefully ordered world and destroy everything he loves. So, resolute as only the slightly imbalanced can be, Patrick embarks on a campaign to Make Ryan Go Away. And as he messes up, and freaks out, and grows up, you will fall in love with him. I promise.
