Review of A Dirty Shame (2004) by Sausages M — 11 Aug 2010
Apparently lots of Waters fans hated this film, but I liked it. It was daft, sexy, funny, and entertaining even if the premise ran out of steam and got ridiculous and cartoony around 2/3 of the way in. I'd say that unlike a lot of other Waters movies I've seen, this one at least knew how to end rather than going for his usual nasty shock. Knoxville was perfect casting, and I admire Ullman for not takiing herself too seriously and accepting this fun, depraved role.
No great message here beyond the usual 'sex isn't dirty if it doesn't hurt anyone' and 'tolerate others' stuff, except perhaps that time is cruel, in Isaak's case. Ouch!
It's worth it for the satire on the Bear community alone, frankly.
