Review of A Day at the Races (1937) by Zoran S — 13 Mar 2010
One of the great crimes in cinematic history was to bog down the Marx Brothers films with crappy musical numbers and cheesy romance. To be fair, this does have Harpo's pied piper number which is interesting by 1937 standards in its representations of African Americans.
(I can't think of another musical from the era that gives an entire number over to a large cast of African American characters). Still, this has several hilarious moments.
