Review of A Cure for Wellness (2017) by Luke E — 09 Apr 2017
I'm into a lot of weird shit and there's no exception I thought Gore Verbinski's latest flick would definitely be my cup of tea, especially as a new cult favourite. First off, I get this film is definitely not the most original of ideas to be recently released, although I do think this film has a great sense of intelligence that permeate throughout it's mysteries despite faltering through some ordinary cliches.
Not to mention in true Verbinski fashion it's one of the most visually striking Gothic mysteries/horrors I've seen recently, not to mention more or less demands your patients due to it's long length.
Dane Dehaan proves he's a versatile actor able to play different roles across a variety of genres, Jason Issacs and Mia Goth are also performance highlights of the film. In the end it's message is to get under our skins and question our well being as well as the quality of our lives it even uses some incredibly unusual motifs and imagery to examine the very things that may undermine or enhance our wellness as well as what's the bigger meaning to what individuals at the sanatorium seek or get in return for how they're living.
This film isn't for the faint of heart, nor is it for those who don't like weirdly obscure material destined to be cult favourites. If you're looking for a visually stunning and curiously intelligent Gothic thriller than you may as well check this one out if like, I somehow liked it on an unusual note.
