Review of A Cure for Wellness (2017) by Matt F — 24 Feb 2017
If you are contemplating seeing it, stop reading about the film now. It is best appreciated with no knowledge of the plot. If you want to know what a cross between Hitchcock and David Lynch is like, with some flavor of Kafka, this is it.
I strongly disagree with critics here at RT. When someone says this is predictable, they are either talking about a different film or trying to pretend they knew what was coming before the film revealed it through foreshadowing.
And even if someone has complaints about any aspect of it, it is undeniably different from the glut of schlock in theatres with almost everything else being adapted from a superhero comic book, a sequel, a pandering date night/frat boy comedy good for little more than a few laughs, or rehashing of a variation of Mad Max, Terminator, Aliens, or The Matrix.
The irony here is that this film most appeals to the people least likely to be influenced by the opinions of people with no respect for creative work. I'm thankful it was made, and that it not something I can say for many films within the last few years.
