Review of A Cock and Bull Story (2005) by Líam P — 28 Nov 2007
A film about a film they could not make about a book the author could not finish....Ish.
This docu-com-drama affair features two comedy heavy weights - Coogan on top form, and Brydon at his absolute peak - putting together their ambitious plan to filmn "Tristram Shandy", up there with Don Quixote as a work almost impossible to translate into a cinematic entity. To somehow avoid the whole process, the film suddenly becomes - in a Lost In La Mancha style, ironically enough, a film-about-the-film, with so many self-referential layers enclosed within the credits there's not much left of the building never mind the "fourth wall".
