Review of A Clockwork Orange (1971) by Ethan B — 05 Mar 2013
A Clockwork Orange is really a boring, dull movie. Much like staring at a piece of artwork that is both "disturbing and thought-provoking, with a very dark sense of humor", for 2 hours and 17 minutes, there is nothing enjoyable out of this movie.
At most, it is a little interesting, but then I remembered all the concepts and ideas were from the book anyway. This movie, from a certain perspective, SEEMS very interesting, groundbreaking, dark, artsy, etc.
However, upon actually having to sit through it for over 2 hours I didn't enjoy it in the least and I felt no emotions watching it. The shock scenes weren't that shocking, the darkly funny scenes weren't that funny, etc.
I've seen other "cerebral" films with similar themes dont much better, and been affected by them emotionally. A Clockwork Orange just isn't that great. Maybe it's just not my thing, but I have the feeling if people watched this, not knowing that everyone else loves it so much, they might not find it to be such a "classic".
