Review of A Clockwork Orange (1971) by Tatsuhito K — 22 Nov 2015
As a disturbing and thought-provoking experimental art-house film with controversial subject matters, I think it's very well-made and does a great job of making an audience feel sick. For that, I give it a 4 out of 5.
However, as far as the satirical entertainment goes, it's rather all over the place. I do get the messages the film is trying to deliver, and I don't mind its dark sense of humor. I admire Kubrick's direction and I think McDowell's performance is solid.
But the story is a mess and the execution is rather questionable. Not exactly a gratifying film for my taste, but if you are interested in subversive films, then it'll most likely blow your mind. A Clockwork Orange is an artistic mess.
