Review of A Christmas Story (1983) by Joseph J — 25 Dec 2010
One of the greatest American holiday films of all time. The ensemble is terrific in this 1983 flick about a young boy wanting a BB gun for Christmas, and people were telling him "You'll shoot your eye out, kid!".
Peter Billingsley is terrific in his role as Ralphie, making him one of the most memorable film characters of all time. His father, played by Darren McGavin, gives a hilariously sarcastic performance and captures the role so well.
Ian Petrella is funny as Ralphie's little brother Randy, His pig-eating scene is a must-watch. Melinda Dillon is "perfection" in her supporting role as Ralphie's mother, her delivery of lines are hilariously realistic and her scenes with McGavin, Billingsley, and Petrella were also heartwarming.
Tedde Moore is fun to watch as Ralphie's teacher, the dream sequence she is in is quite memorable. There are many memorable scenes, like the pole-licking scene and Ralphie meeting Santa Claus, and the present from "Aunt Clara".
I never get tired of watching this film, it's an absolute classic, and it's always in my list of films to watch for Christmas. 5/5.
