Review of A Christmas Story (1983) by Nickolas H — 04 Dec 2018
Do you remember what it was like being a kid wanting a Christmas present so bad and dreading waiting until Christmas morning? That's exactly what this movie does is bring back all the wonderful memories of being a kid during Christmas by how Ralphie just wanted a BB gun and that stayed on his mind throughout the movie.
The setting is in the 1940's which sets the movie as being old timey by the way the lighting looks, how the house is set up with an old furnace and a smaller kitchen, even what they wear such as the jackets, scarfs, one kid was even wearing a raccoon hat, some of the shoes and boots they wear, and the cars they drive.
The tinker toys that all the kids played with even further shows how it's old timey. A Christmas Story really brings the wonderful Christmas spirit out of you by showing you how a typical American family lives.
It's so realistic it makes you seem as if your there in the movie with the family by showing the great things and struggles come Christmas time. It's not like most Christmas movies that are fictional where everything is perfect it's actually very far from it, the movie shows the struggles Ralphie goes through such as being bullied, his mom saying no to the BB gun for Christmas, and even having an annoying little brother.
But this makes you feel as if your in the movie along with the family because we all have things that come up during the holiday and nothing is perfect so I that's what makes the movie so special and sets it apart from many Christmas movies is because of how realistic it seems.
But yet even with these struggles that are faced it shows you no matter what Christmas brings happiness to a kid.
