I would like to say that the only flaw of this film is time, meaning it has simply been improved upon by other filmmakers who've grown and sharpened with the future. But unfortunately this is the most heavily abridged version of the novel.

So much is missing, from the structure itself even. It's still a classic nonetheless. The acting is waaaay theatrical, which is just a characteristic of this era in film. No one had really become used to the idea that the camera could see more than an audience member.

A fine movie, full of spirit.
