Review of A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) by Ryan P — 10 Dec 2012
The best Christmas special ever created, and a timeless classic. This was the first televised Peanuts special and one can easily tell with the occasionally choppy and awkward dialogue and the rough (yet stylish) animation.
It manages to walk the line between dark/depressing and fun amazingly well. The music itself is so rich and iconic that it could simply rest on those laurels. But the plot and interactions, particularly regarding the Charlie Brown character, are so much more advanced than the typical children's cartoon.
Hell, I'm not even religious but the Linus speech was perfect and the talk of commercialism destroying Holidays is truly before its time.
