Review of A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) by Matthew D — 25 Dec 2018
A sweet Christmas hangout with the Peanuts!
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) takes on the holiday spirit with Charlie Brown questioning the meaning for the season. From the deeply thoughtful feeling of sharing for Christmas and celebrating holidays with your friends, Peanuts always bring the right atmosphere to their cartoon specials. Charles M. Schultz again writes greatness with the sarcastic and depressed Charlie Brown and his blunt friends.
The streamlined direction from Bill Melendez continues to impress me with Charlie Brown going from friend to friend to find the meaning of Christmas. The storytelling is so concise and comforting. The warm vibe from Peanuts remains just like when I saw these specials as a kid.
Snoopy and Woodstock are still adorable like all these hand drawn animated characters. The clever dialogue and child voices feel as charming and quaint as the first time I watched A Charlie Brown Christmas.
The jazz score is still here from the classic Peanuts theme to more festive Christmas songs sung by the children. Peanuts reign on as the most cute Christmas special that I've seen. It's still fun for families to get together and watch as one.
