Review of A Bronx Tale (1993) by Jaden N — 16 Jun 2011
Robert de Niro's directoral debut has a lot of heart and emotion to it, unlike most of his other films. A bus driver (Niro) is worried when his son gets involved with a mob boss (Palminteri). But the son Calogero (Lillo Brancato, soapy performance) got it in his head that the boss, Sonny, wished him no harm.
And Sonny doesn't, it is a story that tells the love of both the father and Sonny towards Calogero. Although it might not pack that much action to be called a gangster film, but A Bronx Tale's touching script and Niro's brilliant off/on camerawork made it worthwhile.
