Review of A Bridge Too Far (1977) by Oscar D — 13 Dec 2013
Riding Richard Attenborough's skilled direction, A Bridge Too Far is an excellently made epic war film.
The only problem is that there's so much going on so it's hard too keep up with, and that goes on for the full 3 hours, and really it feels like a bit of a huge scattershot project which is easy to confuse viewers who aren't as stuck in the story as some of the more narrow focused viewers.
Nevertheless, A Bridge Too Far is full of excellent acting with the standouts being Michael Caine, Anthony Hopkins and especially James Caan and Sean Connery.
And riding Academy Award calibre cinematography, fine production design and locations as well as strong costumes, intensity and thrilling action, A Bridge Too Far is truly great depiction of a massive war blunder with an excellent depiction of the war and the tragedies that beheld it, even if it is a little long and repetitive. But still, it's an excellent visual treat and a well scripted one too.
