Review of A Boy and His Dog (1975) by Jacob G — 20 May 2010
I don't just give out 5 stars on a whim. This is a seriously epic film. Few works of art (regardless of the medium... film, books, etc) match my morbid sense of humor... but A Boy and His Dog takes me on full swing.
The movie is definitely a hard R. While the actual sex is limited, boobies abound and the thematic elements themselves are enough to keep this from the PG13 crowd. In their post-apocalyptic style world, women are few-and-far between.
.. and when found, rape abounds. Dogs, apparently, have developed the ability to act as a female radar... something males use to full advantage. It is practically an expected part of the fend-for-yourself society in which the world is in.
There are no morals except to look after yourself. Thus, battles between would-be rapists occur, each vying for their sexual claim. Things take a turn when.
