A Bigger Splash is a fine drama when it should've been great. The four stars of the film are superb. Tilda Swinton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Ralph Fiennes, and Dakota Johnson are all great in their roles.
They were the best part of the film. It is very interesting to see how these characters interact and their relationships. Unfortunately, the film takes way too long to pick up. The pacing is a big issue in the film.
It is very slow. I am fine when a film is slow, but it shouldn't be boring. There are some scenes of greatness, but not enough. The last half hour picks up, and it entertains. Unfortunately, this is not the whole film.
The directing is unique and the score is intoxicating, but the film lacks in plot. Overall, this isn't a terrible movie. It isn't even bad. But it should've been amazing when it was only okay.
